The Life and Work of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský
Between 1909 and 1958, the national artist and composer Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský (1881-1958) lived with his family in a serviced apartment in a burgher’s house on a street which lead to the St. Nicholas Basilica, where he served for years as a choirmaster. He was one of the leading figures of the Church Musical Society in Trnava. The museum is preserving his hereditament, which includes mainly his music manuscripts and his personal archive with works by other authors. It holds religious as well as secular music, his records of the composer’s work, his voluminous correspondence and documentation of his work. The exhibition which follows his life and work is installed in a genuine setting. The composer’s study and the family dining room are furnished with original pieces of furniture, accessories, books, paintings, photographs, and awards which he received; his desk is covered in personal items. The exhibition also features documentation of the master’s work.
