The ground floor of the House of Music of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský houses an exhibition dedicated to a musical instrument widely popular in America and its inventor; John Dopyera 1893 - 1988), born in town of Šaštín and bred in the village of Dolná Krupá, just around the corner from Trnava is the man behind the resonator guitar of the brand “Dobro”. The originally Slovakian family moved out to the States in 1908. The Dopyera brothers made musical instruments, violins and guitars in particular, and became famous for patenting a resonator guitar which was a combination of the wooden musical instrument and a metal resonator. The name of the brand combines the first two syllables of the words DOpyera BROthers. The exhibition features various replicas of patents, components of the musical instruments made by the family company, photographs and other documentation which was given to the museum by the Dopyera family, alongside guitars made by present-day manufacturers as well as miscellaneous objects from world artists and advocates of the guitar DOBRO, especially among the country music and blues singers. The exhibition at the same time is a reference to the international music festival Dobrofest which annually took place in Trnava from 1992 until 2008.
